Brock Lesnar’s intestinal infection reemerges

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has been forced to pull out of his number one contender matchup against Junior dos Santos, due to a reoccurrence of the intestinal infection that almost ended his life a few years ago.

Apparently, Lesnar started noticing symptoms a few months ago. The MMA fighter underwent a series of tests on May 12 and the results confirmed his fears. Given the seriousness of Lesnar’s medical issues, the obvious choice was pull out of his scheduled UFC 131 encounter with Junior dos Santos.

Heavy-handed MMA fighter Shane Carwin will be Lesnar’s replacement at UFC 131. Carwin dominated Lesnar in his last MMA fight, handing the then UFC heavyweight champion a thorough beating in the first round. Unfortunately for Carwin, Lesnar was able to reverse his fortune and finish the fight with an arm-triangle in the second round.

Now, Carwin has another opportunity to earn a title shot when he faces Junior dos Santos at UFC 131. The fight should be really interesting since both MMA fighters have similar styles. Both MMA fighters have serious knock power coupled with solid wrestling skills.

Hopefully, Lesnar will be able to fight off his infection once again and get back in the Octagon sooner rather than later. While some of his actions might have rubbed a number of MMA fans the wrong way, Lesnar’s accomplishments inside the Octagon should earn him some respect from any true fan of the sport. One thing’s for sure, Lesnar’s morale has not been broken by the ordeal. While discussing his condition, the MMA fighter seemed confident as ever. Lesnar said:

“It’s a matter of removing some of my colon and reattaching it, and I can’t foresee that being a career-threatening ordeal. At least, I hope not, I’ll tell you one thing: I’m not retiring. This isn’t the end of my fighting career. I believe there’s a solution to every problem. I just gotta find the right solution to fix this problem. This isn’t the end of Brock Lesnar. This is a speed bump in the road. I’ve hit a lot of speed bumps in my career and this is one of them.”
