Five best heavyweights in MMA right now

The heavyweight division in MMA has its share of superstars that have dominated the sport for years, and given fans lots of action packed fights. Heavyweights might not move at the fastest pace, but their size and power always keeps spectators entertained. Here are the five best MMA fighters in the world right now.

1. Junior Dos Santos

With his explosive hands and impressive takedown defense, Dos Santos is now set to face current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 139, scheduled for November 19. With wins over tough MMA veterans like Gabrielle Gonzaga, Mirko “Cro-Cop” Filipovic, and Fabricio Werdum, Dos Santos is ready to be the next UFC heavyweight champion.

2. Cain Velazquez

Currently the UFC heavyweight champion, some might think Velazquez should be higher up the rankings, but his MMA resume doesn’t support that.

3. Alistair Overeem

Overeem didn’t look his best against Fabricio Werdum in his last performance, but the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion is still one of the best in MMA. In his last nine fights, Overeem has definitely lived up to the moniker “Demolition Man,” finishing nine of his last ten fights in the very first round. Hopefully, UFC fans will get to see Overeem in the Octagon soon against the very best MMA fighters in the world.

4. Brock Lesnar

Like it or not, Lesnar is still one of the best heavyweight MMA fighters in the world. Lesnar’s world class wrestling coupled with his enormous size and strength will guarantee continued success in the UFC’s heavyweight division. If Lesnar ever becomes a half-decent striker, he shouldn’t have any problems reclaiming his belt.

5. Frank Mir

One of the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the heavyweight division, Mir continues to develop his skills as an MMA fighter. Mir might not be able to win back the heavyweight division title in the future, but he still has a lot of entertaining fights left in him.
