Hector Lombard Signs with the UFC

Hardcore MMA fans will be please to hear that the UFC has signed current Bellator middleweight champion, Hector Lombard. A well-accomplished judo player, Lombard has captivated many MMA fans over the years, thanks to his brutal knockout power and solid grappling skills.

“I am in the UFC it is official,” Lombard tweeted on April 24.

With a professional MMA record of 31-2-1, Lombard has put together a very impressive resume, losing only to Akihiro Gono and Gegard Mousasi. Lombard is currently on a 20 fight winning streak, and he hasn’t been beaten in his last 25 bouts. He should match up well with many of the top fighters in the UFC’s middleweight division.

For years, many MMA fans have dreamt about a fight between Hector Lombard and current UFC champion, Anderson Silva, and there’s a pretty good chance they’ll finally get their wish. Anderson is currently scheduled to defend the middleweight title against Chael Sonnen on July 7, and I can definitely see Lombard getting a title shot within the next year.

However, given the way the UFC has treated other champions they’ve signed, Lombard probably won’t get an automatic shot at the title, and he’ll have to prove himself against some of the other top fighters in the division. It’ll certainly be interesting to see who the UFC decides to match Lombard up against, but I’m pretty sure he won’t be getting any easy fights.

Lombard might be on an impressive winning streak, but his skills will be put to the test when he steps inside the Octagon. However, Lombard has demonstrated his tremendous knockout power over the years, and he’ll probably add some more victims to his list when he steps inside the Octagon.

If there’s one asterisk on Lombard’s MMA record, it’s the fact that he hasn’t exactly faced the very best fighters in the sport. He’ll definitely be facing tougher opponents in the UFC, and I for one can’t wait to see how he performs against the best MMA fighters on the planet.
