Matt Mitrione Disses Jon Jones, Wants a Shot at “Bones”

Taking shots at Jon Jones has become a regular pastime for some, ever since the UFC’s light-heavyweight champion decided to turn down a last minute fight against Chael Sonnen (as a replacement for Dan Henderson on the Sept. 1 fight card), and it doesn’t look like the trend will stop any time soon.

“Ultimate Fighter” season 10 alumni, Matt Mitrione, recently joined the mix, taking a few shots at Jones during a recent appearance on the “The MMA Hour.”

“Over time he [Jones] went from a pretty cool guy, humble, to as arrogant as I can handle,” Mitrione said. “He seems really disingenuous, blah, not my flavor of a human being. I even told [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva, if he talks of going to heavyweight, I’d love to welcome Jon Jones to heavyweight. I’d love to try and punch you in the face.”

“Meathead” did acknowledge the fact that Jones is one of the most talented fighters in the UFC right now, but he seemed pretty serious about his desire to fight “Bones.”

“Yeah, I think I can beat Jon Jones,” Mitrione added. “I think on a good day I can beat anyone in the world.”

Matt Mitrione has put together a respectable 5-1 professional MMA record, but he might be getting ahead of himself by calling out Jones. He certainly wasn’t impressive in his last outing against Cheick Kongo, who is a gatekeeper for the heavyweight division, and I don’t think he’s ready for any of the top guys in the division.

However, Jones has indicated his desire to compete as a heavyweight within the next couple of years, and Matt would be relatively safe option for the 25 year-old. Mitrione has built up a decent fan base in his limited amount of fights, which should make a fight against Jones that much easier to sell.

Unfortunately for Mitrione, his chances against Jones are slim to none, and he’ll probably find himself at the receiving end of a serious beating if the fight ever happens.
