“Ultimate Fighter” season three winner, Michael Bisping (23-4-0), added another win to his resume with his unanimous decision against Brian Stann (12-5-0) at UFC 152. The Brash Brit is still aiming for a title shot against current middleweight champ Anderson Silva (32-4-0), but he doesn’t mind going through undefeated Chris Weidman (9-0-0) to do it.
“I was doing this when Chris Weidman was probably getting bullied out of his lunch money in school,” Bisping said during an interview with Ron Kruck. “He’s undefeated, but he’s only had nine fights. Listen, the guy’s an incredible talent, and he’s a great prospect, but he’s still young in his career.”
Weidman put on an impressive performance during his last outing against Mark Munoz, and many in the MMA community seem to think he deserves the next shot at Silva.
However, in my opinion, Michael Bisping is the more deserving fighter between the two. Bisping put on an impressive performance during his “UFC on Fox 2” number one contender fight against Chael Sonnen, and many (myself included) scored the fight in his favor.
Silva is set to face Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153 (Oct. 13) and he’s also trying to secure a super-fight against Georges St. Pierre. There really isn’t any room for Bisping in Anderson’s schedule right now, and he’ll probably have to settle for a number one contender bout before getting a title shot.
I can’t think of a better opponent than Weidman, if “The All-American” emerges victorious against Tim Boetsch at UFC 155 (Dec. 29).
Michael Bisping seems to understand that the chances of a fight against Silva anytime soon are pretty slim, and he’s willing to go through any obstacles the UFC might have in his way.
“I’m trying to provide for myself, and Chris Weidman’s a competitor against me,” Bisping added. “I wish him all the best. But, I think I deserve it, and my time’s now. If I’ve gotta fight Chris Weidman in the meantime? So be it.”
