UFC 184 Predictions

Ronda Rousey will look to keep her undefeated record intact when she defends the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s female bantamweight title against Cat Zingano at UFC 184. The event is set for Feb. 28, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Here are my UFC 184 predictions:

Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano (women’s bantamweight title fight)

Someone’s “0” will go when these two square off. Rousey (10-0-0, 8 submissions) is one of the most dominant champions in the UFC right now, but it’s safe to say Zingano will be her toughest test so far.

Cat’s tenacity matches Ronda’s, and she’s virtually impossible to put away, with a couple of memorable come-from-behind victories on her resume. Zingano is the more technically proficient striker, and she hits hard, with a majority of her victories coming via TKO.

Zingano (9-0-0, 5 KOs) is also a solid grappler, but the odds of her keeping this fight standing are pretty slim. Ronda’s diverse arsenal of judo throws and trips will eventually get the fight to the ground, and, even though Zingano is a competent grappler, it’s going to be all Ronda from there.

Prediction: Ronda Rousey wins via submission.

Raquel Pennington vs. Holly Holm

Pennington (5-4-0, 2 submissions) will welcome Holm (7-0-0, 6 KOs) into the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 184, and this should be a good one boys and girls. Holm is coming into her debut with MMA’s major league with a lot of hype, but Pennington is a scrappy, game fighter that’s coming off an impressive victory against Ashlee Evans-Smith.

It’s easy to pick Holm given all the hype behind her, but the UFC certainly didn’t do her any favors by matching her up against Raquel. Pennington has traded shots with some of the best women in the division like Cat Zingano, and she doesn’t have to worry about Octagon jitters.

I fully expect Holm to get the better of the striking exchanges, and possibly hurt Pennington early during the fight, but “Rocky” will find a way to survive Holm’s initial onslaught and pull off the biggest upset of her MMA career.

Prediction: Raquel Pennington wins via submission.
